THE heat was on over the weekend as thousands of Wanganui and Rangitikei residents flocked to beaches and rivers while others sweltered at community events. The very hot weather was a frequent topic of conversation at the Taihape A and P Show on Saturday, likewise among spectators at the Hydroplanes on the Whanganui River. The Met Service's Wanganui Airport-based weather station recorded a high of 25C on Saturday and 21C on Sunday. However the service said the site experienced the cooling effects of a sea breeze on both days, a luxury outdoors people didn't have further inland. The UV-rating for both days was extreme and continues to be today. Tomorrow is predicted to see some cloud which will increase on Wednesday bringing rain. Thursday is expected to see a return to sunshine.
