A former Wanganui man has won a $45,000 scholarship to study business administration in Thailand.
Hayden Montgomerie was raised in Wanganui and educated at Wanganui Collegiate. He is currently based in Wellington, where he works for the Ministry of Youth Development.
Mr Montgomerie was one of four members of theAsia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network who were recipients of the Prime Minister's Scholarships for Asia, announced this week.
A hundred and three outstanding New Zealand students were given the opportunity to study at top Asian universities.
Mr Montgomerie will use his $45,000 to cover the costs of studying a Master of Business Administration at Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand. He plans to focus on ASEAN [Association of South-East Asian Nations] economic integration and creating opportunities to increase New Zealand-ASEAN cooperation in international education.
"I believe that studying for an MBA in Asia, and specifically in Thailand, will provide me with the cross-cultural and international environment for me to build my skills for the future," Mr Montgomerie said.
The Prime Minister's Scholarship for Asia are funded by the New Zealand Government to support tertiary students spending between six weeks and two years studying or doing research in Asia.
