UCOL Whanganui is offering first-time tertiary students or those looking for a new career direction the chance to dip their toes in new waters next week.

Taster Workshops at the Rutland St campus next Wednesday will offer opportunities to visit the Hospitality and Catering, Beauty, Hairdressing, Early Childhood Education, Creative Industries and Construction departments.

Visitors will be given opportunities to engage with teaching staff in a workshop of their choice and if they like what they see, enrolment advisors will be on hand to advise and sign people up on the spot if they have decided on a course.

UCOL Whanganui campus manager Bronwyn Paul said the local hospitality industry is thriving and there's never been a better time to get training in cookery, baking or as a barista.

"Our hospitality graduates have been getting snapped up as soon as they qualify and so have our other graduates."

Visitors interested in hospitality training will get to spend some time in UCOL's kitchens and get a taste of the food produced by staff and students.

Those interested in hair and beauty will get to try their hand at creating a gorgeous 'up-do' at the Whanganui campus.

Potential students looking to enter the trades will be offered the chance to work on a construction project, metal tuning or electrical engineering.

UCOL has fees-free trades training options currently available at either certificate or diploma level.

There will also be opportunities to discover early childhood teaching or for people to push their creative boundaries with a design project.

Spaces for the workshops are limited and registration is essential. Register online at ucol.ac.nz/events/2020/12/09/ucol-taster-workshops
