Whanganui area members of New Zealand Motor Caravan Association rolled up their sleeves and picked up rubbish in and around the Tutaenui Stream in Marton on Saturday morning.
They are pictured with Rangitikei Mayor Andy Watson, who helped out and disposed of all the rubbish collected. It included a rustyold log fire, clothing and the usual plastic and glass.
The association has a strong connection to Marton, since it bought the former Marton municipal campground from Rangitikei District Council. The space there now gives members a safe, secure space to stay on their travels.
The annual Spring Clean is carried out by NZMCA members across New Zealand, Whanganui area chairman Dave Burroughs said. In the last few years the Whanganui group has cleaned up in Bulls, Marton and Whanganui.
Others in Marton have been busy too, with Clare Aston organising a street-by-street clean-up, helped by the Keep New Zealand Beautiful organisation.
Last week individuals and schools could pick up specially marked plastic bags and gloves from Broadway Colourplus, choose which street to tidy and then drop the bags of rubbish off for free at the Marton Transfer Station.
