Like a dog with a bone .. that's how I feel every time I read a story on Trump and there are plenty to choose from.
I don't ever recall another US president and their associated hangers-on garnishing so much, and incidentally, almost exclusively negative press. Not just one or two but multiple stories a day.
It took a nutter driving and running amok in London, killing and injuring innocent people with a car and a knife to give us the longest break we've had without news websites posting their usual string of Trump bashing items.
As tragic as the events were, it was almost a welcome relief to read something different.
It beats reading about hand shaking events ... no shake, shaking for too long, awkward shakes. Give me a break. Whoever thought handshaking analysis could turn into a possible qualification because such petty things make for big news when it comes to the Dump on Trump Brigade.
I'm not sure what the agenda is but the approach is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
Well, putting personal politics aside and though an apparent minority of one, according to those infamous polls, I'm going to trumpet for Trump if for no other reason than sheer principle.
If the bias wasn't so blatantly obvious I'd be OK with it but as it stands there is nothing fair and impartial about it. Balanced reporting? It's not even capable of swinging left, right, up or down. It's lying prone on the floor, legless, toppled and subsequently crushed by the hefty weight of imbalance.
And it's not just Trump. It's his staff, his associates, his family .. even what they wear.
Last time I checked Michelle Obama wore some mighty expensive designer clothing on a daily basis. If she even made the news it was always complimentary. Ivanka Trump, on the other hand, gets criticised for wearing something "so flashy" and is labelled as distasteful and showy. The cost of her clothes is somehow deemed inappropriate.
Plant some carrots and corn in the Whitehouse garden's and you're the next Mother Theresa, but being a highly educated, successful business woman, associated with Trump, sees you branded a strumpet. Like I said, subtle as a sledgehammer.
Even if Trump and his office did everything right I have little doubt that media would crawl to hell and back if it meant some negative spin could be dug up from the depths and showered liberally on the story to counter any positive news.
This childish knee-jerk reaction to criticise, mock and find fault with everything he and his administration says and does has to stop. Given the chance, there's a possibility that some good things may be achieved.
If the Kiwi media feels so compelled to scrutinise politicians so harshly then I challenge them to put their journalistic skills to better use and focus on the ones that are a little closer to home.
