Broadview Rest Home and Hospital staff received their service awards last Friday before a lunch in the Broadview Retirement Village community lounge. It was part of a "training day" and the awards were an unexpected extra. Delwyn Gedye, manager, opened the proceedings, thanking the "Village People" and their manager, Karen Noyes, fortheir hospitality and cooking. "We give these awards for staff that have been here for five, 10, 15 and 20 years. I don't know what happens after 20 years ... perhaps we go into care as well," she said. "It's another way for Bupa to celebrate the staff. Caregiving is a difficult job at times, and I know for all of you here today it's very rewarding. It's not the highest paid job in the world, but there's something about working with people that has great value. "It's also a time of huge personal growth." Broadview resident Sharon assisted with the awards. Two year awards were presented to Annette Baker, Annette Reti, Jennifer Jackson, Michelle Sullivan, Peter Cunningham, Peter Kempthorne, Vanivani Ta'ala and Yvonne Nielsen. Five year awards were presented to Faith Munsamy, Fiona Graham, Leonie Rennie, Melanie Watt, Stephen Cowie and Tony Roest. Pamela Burgess and Priscilla Fonseka received their 20 year awards.
