The boys of Room 3 at Tawhero School will have their enthusiasm for woodwork rewarded with a $350 donation towards brand new tools and equipment.
The money was donated by The Rotary Club of Wanganui South.
The boys building a trolley cart yesterday morning were too absorbed in their workto pause for a chat, but their classmates had plenty to say about the gift. "Thank you for coming and giving us the money," one student said.
The students said they planned to race the trolley carts then auction them off to provide the funds for their next project.
"We're going to sell them to make more stuff. We're building a playhouse next," one student said.
Club member Neville Procter sat on the Parents' and Teachers' Association when his daughters attended the school and said he had seen the difference in the school since then.
"Any support you can give has got to be good for them," he said.
Principal Chris Dibben said the tools and equipment were for the whole school to use under supervision and with support from teachers.
