You may not always wear a uniform, but anyone can and does save lives. The following lifesaving courses are available in Wanganui.
¦Survival Skills: These are so important and are a combination of practical swimming, personal survival and basic rescue skills, as well as the ability to judge dangers. Someone who
has gone through this course has the best chance of dealing with an emergency situation.
¦Dry Rescue: These aim to introduce land-based water rescue techniques and skills. A person does not enter the water to perform a rescue. The rescuer stays dry.
¦Parent and Caregivers course: Develops acceptable standards of knowledge, judgement, skills and physical abilities and expertise that could prepare one for supervision of adults and/or children in an aquatic environment. This course/award is designed for those adults who want to have basic lifesaving knowledge without requiring previous courses/awards.
For further information or if your group is interested in doing any of the courses/awards, contact Marie Baker, phone 343 2677 or email kidswm@hotmail.co.nz
