A Wanganui schoolgirl has been named overall winner of the 2010 regional science fair.
Pratibha Singh, 12, in Year 8 at Wanganui Intermediate School, won the chemistry section for her project on the levels of acid in yoghurt.
Pratibha added different amounts of bacteria each time to the yoghurt to see whether
it affected the concentration of acid.
Her experiment proved that the more bacteria she added the more concentrated the yoghurt became.
Pratibha said she liked exploring science.
"Hopefully, one day I will be able to compete at the nationals. That is my goal and it would be fun."
A prize of a laptop was awarded to Pratibha last night at a prizegiving. The laptop was sponsored by TCL communications director Chris Jones.
