The Prime Minister, John Key, visited Huntley School on Friday to mark the school going coeducational.
Headmaster Brad Gay said Mr Key was on his way to Ratana Marae, "but had time for a tour of the new boarding facility for housing girls and boys".
"Huntley is New Zealand's oldestand largest boarding preparatory school and the move to coeducation has ensured future growth, with the roll starting on a five-year high," Mr Gay said. "Mr Key was impressed to hear 25 girls had already enrolled for the start of this year and wished Huntley well for its future."
Mr Key also talked to invited guests, which included many of Rangitikei's secondary school heads and student leaders, about education and the policy announcement in his State of the Nation address on Thursday of the $359 million injection into educational leadership.
Mr Gay said Huntley's head boy, Jack Gay, "gave an excellent thank you speech and told visitors he was proud of Huntley and was looking forward to having girls in the school this year".
