The Whanganui Regional Primary Health Organisation is shifting house.
The WRPHO is shifting from its central city location to premises owned by the Whanganui District Health Board on Heads Rd.
Judith MacDonald, chief executive of the WRPHO, said the shift made sense for a number of reasons, not least of them being financial.
Until now the organisation has been renting office space in the former Government Life building on the corner of Victoria Ave and Guyton St but signalled it was not renewing its tenancy and would move out in May.
Mrs MacDonald said the WRPHO had signed a lease with the district health board "and we move into our new offices at the end of May".
The PHO's new headquarters started life as the Wanganui Hospital laundry and then was home for the children's and adolescents mental health unit. But since that unit shifted into Delta wing the building has been empty.
Mrs McDonald said the building was "perfect" for her staff.
"The only major alteration that we're looking at involves creating a bigger meeting room."
She said the decision to relocate to the hospital campus was sensible one.
"It gets us closer to both our Gonville health centre and Whanganui Accident and Medical centre which we run at the hospital.
"And hopefully, being closer to the WDHB, will also see us more involved in some of the decision-making as well."
She said it also meant the WDHB benefited from collecting the rent. "It's also going to give us savings by cutting down on the amount of time and money we spent getting to and from the centre city to the hospital."
