New video promotes healthy choices

Robbie Lilburn from Lilburns and Barrett & Taura Transport is a poster boy for the new Healthy Families video.

Healthy change is being promoted across the Whanganui community and in order to encourage and support this change to reach more people, Healthy Families Whanganui Rangitīkei Ruapehu (WRR) have developed a local video.

The video showcases some of the things that are happening and provides examples of opportunities others might look to explore.

The team from Healthy Families WRR contracted local production company Lamp Studios to capture stories from Live, Learn, Work, and Play settings across the region.

Filming was done over a period of three weeks including Ruapehu and Rangitīkei.

The video provides real life examples from schools, kohanga reo, marae, workplaces, churches, sports clubs and interest groups and features many local faces from children right up to kaumatua.

There are examples of smokefree workplaces, water-only schools, alcohol free events, growing healthy food and encouraging physical activity.

Healthy Families team leader Debbie-Jane Viliamu says "we're really thankful to the many people that agreed to participate and share their stories, the leadership that is being shown in relation to healthy change is awesome and we are looking forward to working alongside others that might be keen to take up the challenge".

The Healthy Families Whanganui Rangitīkei Ruapehu local video will be shown on selected Kiwi TV screens, at the Whanganui District Health Board, the Whanganui District Council and other associated organisations from the November 15 until February 2017.

It will also be posted on the HFWRR facebook and twitter social media platforms and on the website www.healthyfamilieswrr.org.nz
