Mounted Rifles display draws crowds +photos

Roughly 300 people showed up to the opening of Bulls Museum's WWI Mounted Rifles exhibition on Saturday.

"A lot of people came out of the woodwork," Bulls and Districts Historical Society secretary Helen Cooper said.

"It was really great."

Military cars and vintage vehicles were on display at the opening, as Wanganui Collegiate student Braedyn Freebairn gave a speech on Bess, one of the horses that came back from the war.

Lt Col Sholto Stephens, Commander of the Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifles from Linton officiated at the opening, and military history author Terry Kinloch also spoke.

The day also saw Bulls School students performing a Kapa Haka, and the The 5th Battalion (Wellington West Coast and Taranaki) Pipes and Drums attended. There was also a Harvard flyover.

Ms Cooper said there was "really great feedback".

"A lot of people have said they're coming back to have a thorough look because they couldn't take it all in one go."

Ms Cooper wanted to "thank everybody for their support".
