Midwifery services in Wanganui will more than meet the needs of pregnant women over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, the Whanganui District Health Board has advised.

Regional midwifery adviser Cheryl Benn said enough midwives had put themselves forward for duty over the holiday period to ensure the roster was fully covered and every women needing midwifery care would be well served.

Women are encouraged to contact a midwife before they enter the 10th week of pregnancy.

"We're advising and encouraging them to engage the services of a midwife before they enter the 10th week of their pregnancy, regardless of whether it is their first pregnancy or not."

Dr Benn said women can go to findyourmidwife.co.nz or mamaternity.org.nz/find-a-midwife or call 0800 686 223 to find local midwives.
