Want to know how to overcome a mid-life crisis?
For a Wanganui man in his 50s it's done by spending more than $70,000 on one of the fastest legal motorbikes on the planet.
The man, who did not wish to be named, has just taken delivery of a Ducati 1198 R Corse Special Edition and there's only one other of its kind in the country.
But isn't this all about mid-life crisis?
"Absolutely. Why wouldn't it be? Shirts, shoes, motorbikes, that's about it. This is expensive but it's still cheaper than a wife, " he said.
The new owner didn't want to be identified as he was concerned publicity would pose security problems for the bike.
What we can tell you is that the Ducati is a single-seater, powered by a 1198cc twin-cylinder engine with four titanium valves per cylinder.
That engine delivers 132kW to the rear wheel and it has a top speed of about 330km/h.
"It's the most powerful bike, in terms of power to weight, on the planet," he said, "and when this came out I just decided I had to have it."
It's the closest you'll get to those superbikes that you see tearing over race circuits around the world.
Using lots of carbon fibre it's very light, weighing just 163kg.
The owner sees his bike as an investment that will hold its value much better than more moderately priced bikes.
"Ducati is really the Ferrari of the motorbike world," he said.
