ROAD BLOCK: Items are strewn across the road at the scene of the incident in Plymouth St on March 24.

A man shot by police after allegedly pointing a replica gun at them has pleaded not guilty to a raft of charges.

Wattie Adolf Kahu, 49, was shot twice by police on March 24 after a police sweep through central Whanganui involving armed officers and police dogs.

He appeared in Whanganui District Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to 11 charges in relation to the incident, including burglary and kidnapping.

His lawyer, Debbie Goodlet, said some charges would likely be accepted in the future but "the number and nature" needed further consideration.

Kahu elected a trial by jury and was remanded in custody to reappear on June 14.
