Jockey Thomas Russell is still in Christchurch Hospital and in a stable condition, following a fall from a horse on June 19.
The fall happened while Russell was riding on a private training track in Bulls, his employer Raymond Connors said. Russell suffered serious spinal injuries and was taken first
to Palmerston North Hospital, then transferred to Christchurch Hospital.
Wanganui Jockey Club operations manager Bret Field said Russell had the club's full support. "The equine industry is certainly wanting to rally around and support him as best we can. We are feeling for Thomas at this time and wishing his friends and family all the best." Russell is 31 and has ridden five winners this season.
He has a career tally of 276 wins.
