Inland Revenue is warning people of a particularly sophisticated email tax scam.
The phishing email appears to have been sent by Inland Revenue with a form that also looks convincing. The email says the recipient has a tax refund waiting for them and asks them to update their financial information. The email address appears to be from "Inland Revenue Department" but is actually sent from a false address, IRDxxxxx@s1.nzr.review.
The email has an attachment called TaxReturn.HTM. This is a fake form designed to collect personal and credit card data. People should not open the attachment.
Please contact your bank immediately if you have received this email and have clicked on the form and submitted any personal or credit card data. You should also contact IDcare at www.idcare.org or phone 0800 201 415. You can also notify Inland Revenue at phishing@ird.govt.nz.
