Whanganui school girl Kaia Potaka-Osborne has a Hurricanes shirt signed by all the super rugby winning team members but she has no intention of keeping it.
The shirt is up for auction on Trade Me and all the money raised will go towards supporting young cancer patient Amelia Bennett.
WhenKaia first learned that 9 year-old Amelia and her family were having to travel back and forth to Auckland for treatments Kaia wanted to help even though she did not know the family.
Kaia's teacher, Paula Conder is a friend of the Bennett family and when she mentioned Amelia's situation, Kaia was inspired to help.
"I went home and talked to my sister Ash and she and her boyfriend Eru helped me organise it."
The jersey was signed just before the super rugby final so all the players who went on to beat the Lions by 20-3 at Westpac Stadium on August 6 have signed the shirt.
"I just wanted to help and I am so happy that we managed to get this," said Kaia. The Hurricanes are not the first Kiwi sport stars to to help out Amelia and her family.
Previous fundraising auctions were a pair of rugby boots donated and signed by All Black Liam Messam, an extra large jacket signed by World Rally Championship driver Hayden Paddon, a Warriors ball signed by Stacey Jones and Dean Bell, a Central Pulse netball signed by Irene van Dyk and other players, and an All Blacks bag signed by Liam Messam.
Mrs Condor said the Hurricanes jersey was listed on Trade Me on Sunday night and has had 800 views but no bids yet. The auction will close on Sunday September 4.
