A MOTHER has been told she should not hesitate to take her sick daughter to Wanganui Hospital.
Maria O'Leary's daughter, Julia, has cerebral palsy and is subject to seizures. She has frequently needed attention at the hospital's Children's Ward.
She became ill at the weekend and Mrs O'Leary was nursing her at home because the hospital has no permanent paediatrician available and she lacked confidence in its services.
However, she has received a "thoughtful and compassionate" letter from chief executive Memo Musa, saying she should not hesitate to bring Julia to the ward.
Mr Musa offered an appointment with locum paediatrician David Montgomery to review her daughter's condition.
He said again that during this time of locum cover the process for seeking medical attention for Julia had not changed, and that Dr Montgomery would decide whether she needed admission to the hospital's monitoring ward, transfer to Palmerston North or transfer to an even more advanced hospital.
