A Whanganui City College dance crew placed second in a regional dance contest in Feilding last week.
The placing means they will be heading to the national Hip Hop Unite competition in Dunedin next month.
The crew, named Aotea Empire, were one point ahead before the final score which saw the girls
gain second place to take them to the final.
Deputy principal Val Rooderkerk said the crew will now have to raise $7000 to get them to the final on September 16.
"If anyone needs works done, the girls are willing to put in time for fundraising and it would be great if a local business is willing to support them."
Mrs Rooderkerk said the school did not expect the crew to make the final as it is the first time they have entered the competition.
WCC head girl Baillie Edwards and dance teacher Pauline Hiroti worked out the choreography for the competition.
