The metal is sold to scrap dealers.
With the money raised the group buys $500 Stirling Sports vouchers for a school, and Stirling Sports chips in an extra $75.
"The idea is that the school can buy sports equipment," Mr Boyd said. "It's only for sports equipment, and it must be bought at Stirling Sports Whanganui."
The programme has been going for 18 months, and so far they've raised enough money to make donations to 20 schools.
"Hopefully we will be able to add to those numbers," Mr Boyd said.
He said volunteers to help dismantle old goods were welcome, and were donations of scrap metal. Call Mr Boyd on 027-2494686.
