A footpath on Anzac Pde collapsed into the Whanganui River over the weekend.
Strong winds and rain caused the bank below the road to slump into the river, taking with it the footpath and the railing that ran alongside the footpath.
The footpath provides pedestrian access along Anzac Pde fromKowhai Park to the city bridge, although the section of the footpath that collapsed - the part closest to the city bridge - had been closed for safety reasons since the floods of June 2015.
Since the floods large cracks had been opening up along the footpath.
Despite the strong winds and heavy rain over the weekend, Whanganui Fire Service reported no call-outs related to the weather.
