Garden glory: Whanganui-Manawatu region New Zealand gardener of the year Trish Smart under the Portuguese laurel in her winning Raetihi garden six years ago.

Keen Waimarino gardeners can register for the Waimarino Garden Club Town and Country Club Competition being judged this month.

Club Spokeswoman Sue Deadman said entries will be judged on the whole garden.

On distinction and originality, overall design, plant health, maintenance, colour and texture.
The two classes are open
and novice (those who haven't won a garden competition before) and gardens don't have to be large, she said.

Entry forms can be collected from the Raetihi and Ohakune Information Centre and the Ohakune Take Note Bookshop.

Gardens within the old Ohakune and Raetihi Borough boundaries will be judged for the most
attractive gardens seen from the road.

Points are awarded for harmony, design, colour,cultivation, balance of trees and shrubs.
How well verges,boundaries and lawns look are also judged and awarded points.

All properties within the borough are included in the competition.

Entries for native and business gardens are separate categories.

No entry is needed as judges will view the gardens from the street.
