More than 650 women attended the Ladies Night event at Mitre 10 Mega Wanganui on Wednesday for a fun evening of DIY and entertainment.

"We haven't done the final tally yet but the event raised over $5000 for Hospice Wanganui," said Mitre 10 Mega general manager Hayden Gibson.

The enthusiastic crowd enjoyed learning how to use power tools, pizza making and painting techniques while some took turns at driving a digger.

A screw-driving competition awarded a prize to the contestant who managed to drive the most screws into a board, against the clock.

Mitre 10 staff member Aaron Gash entertained the audience with his guitar playing and singing and Joe Power of Essence Catering created treats on an in-store barbecue.

Supper was provided by the Espresso Garden Cafe and the night concluded with More FM's Sue Miller and auctioneer Dave Cotton conducting a fundraising auction, where there was plenty of bidding.

"Ladies Nights are always one of the highlights of the Mega year, and it is just great to be able to assist Hospice Wanganui in such a concrete way," said Mr Gibson.
