Submissions on the proposed extension to the Bonny Glen landfill closed nearly a month ago but it is still unclear when a decision will be known.

Earlier this year Midwest Disposals, which operates the landfill near Marton, applied for five consents from Horizons Regional Council and one from the Rangitikei District Council to extend the life and size of the facility.

RDC chief executive Ross McNeil said submissions were being processed and a summary of those would be prepared.

"It is normal practice to discuss next steps in the process with an applicant, as they have some choices as to how this unfolds," Mr McNeil said.

"I expect the summary of submissions will be made available to the public once the process has been finalised with the applicant and the submitters are advised. There is no firm date for this as yet."

The RDC has appointed independent commissioners to assess its side of the resource consent, while the regional council is co-ordinating the process.

Midwest Disposals is a joint venture between Enviro Waste Services and TPI Waste Management that was set up to buy the Bonny Glen landfill, which had been established in 1995 to replace several old tips in the region.
