Police expect to release today the name of a 48-year-old man killed during a logging accident.
Ohakune police Sergeant Graeme Rumble said the man was an experienced bushman who was working alone at the time in steep and rugged terrain.
The dead man was found by a work colleague who had gone to investigate when he didn't return his vehicle at the end of his normal shift on Wednesday evening.
After a reconstruction, police said it appeared the man died by being struck by a falling tree.
Police and Occupational Health and Safety personnel were still investigating the accident, he said.
Police and New Zealand Fire Service used their line rescue skills to remove the man from the difficult terrain.
The last forestry harvesting industry death in the Waimarino area was 13 years ago.
The death has been reported to the Waimarino coroner.
