Brenda Gregory had a very special birthday present yesterday.

Mrs Gregory turned 92 yesterday and as part of her birthday celebrations took a ride on the newly-restored No 12 tram, which carried paying passengers for the first time since 1950.

"I've been made a big fuss of. When I arrived I was taken straight to the front of the queue, so I didn't have to wait at all." Mrs Gregory said.

She said her trip was exciting, and she was pleased the tram restoration had been such a success.

"It's a great triumph for everybody involved, I'm absolutely delighted."

Originally from London, Mrs Gregory recalls going to school on the tram.

She said the tram ride had been part of a fantastic birthday.

"My family is wonderful. They always have a lovely celebration for me on my birthday.

"When you get to 92, every birthday is significant."
