Ben and the Believers

Ben and the Believers

Palmerston North and Pohangina five-piece Ben and the Believers are playing their first ever Whanganui gig on Friday when they take the stage at the Whanganui Musicians' Club.

A five-piece country/ folk band that play a mix 1960s, 1970s and modern country, The Believers have been playing together for about five years around the Manawatu area.

"It's the first time we've played in Whanganui so we are quite pleased about that," guitarist Barry Keane said.

"We've heard really good things about the Whanganui Musicians' Club.

"We come from a background of community and using music to build community and it sounds like that's very much the philosophy of the Whanganui Musicians' Club."

The band stick to covers.

"That's what we like to do," Keane said.

"We usually stick with tragic themes like heavy drinking, dying young or a good woman done wrong, while trying to have some fun along the way."
