Band's last stop on a 50-year journey

The Irish Rovers are touring New Zealand for the last time - and next week they are coming to Wanganui.

Popular for the last 50 years, this legendary band will play at the Royal Wanganui Opera House on September 26.

The Wanganui Chronicle is giving readers the chance to win a free double pass to The Irish Rovers' final Wanganui concert.

The band first became known in the 1960s on US television programmes such as The Tonight Show, The Smothers Brothers Show, Mike Douglas Show, The Virginian, The Dating Game, and produced such early hits as The Black Velvet Band, The Unicorn, and Whisky On A Sunday.

Reviewers are calling this tour an emotional roller-coaster with tears and much laughter mingled with memories and excitement over the new songs from the band.

On this final tour they bring some of Ireland's top players, who for years have played on the Rovers recordings.

The concert will showcase a mix of their hits, signature songs, rollicking jigs and reels, and hilarious stories from their 50 years on the road.
