GOODS: The antique fair is on this weekend.
This weekend at Whanganui Racecourse, the Antique Fair Charitable Trust is doing its thing for Hospice Wanganui.
"There will be dealers from all over New Zealand coming, from Christchurch to Whangarei," says one of the organisers, Sandy Woodward. "There's a big range of goods - furniture, china, silver, antiquarian books, linen,
tools and collectables - all high quality items."
This is the first time the Antique Fair Charitable Trust has run a fair in Whanganui.
"The trust is made up of a group of dealers and we run these fairs to raise money charity. Generally Hospice is the recipient but we do raise funds for other charities," says Sandy. The trust recently raised $8000 from a fair in Orewa, the money going to help a young man with stage four melanoma. "So we do a variety of work like this."
Sandy is one of the trustees of the trust, known as TACT.
"We were asked by several of our people in Whanganui, in a casual way, if we would run a fair there. We thought, well, yes, why not? TACT runs fairs all over the country so Whanganui is not difficult to do."
The Antique Fair is on this Saturday from 10am till 5pm and Sunday from 10am until 4pm. There is an entry fee for adults of $6 (children free) and all exhibits are for sale.
