Catholics from Wanganui enjoyed a day out to Jerusalem on April 12, to celebrate 20 years since the Rosary Way was erected there.

"Bishop Peter Cullinane officiated at the Mass in the lovely historic church at Jerusalem," Ted Downs said. He was one of about 55 people who took the trip.

The idea for the walkway for prayer and reflection came from a Carmelite Friary in Kent, England.

"It was a labour of love involving many people to get the idea off the ground over many months," Mr Downs said.

"Donations were gladly given and it involved a lot of labour, from carpentry, path laying and sheer hard work over many weekends, to make it a reality."

Mr Downs said visitors "from all over" go to the Rosary Way at Jerusalem and "are encouraged to stay and pray for a while".
