Marist have kept pace with the top end of the Wanganui Premier League and reversed a recent trend with a seven-wicket win over United on Saturday.
For the first time in some time between these two teams, the side that lost the toss was able to chase down a tempting but still challenging total at Victoria Park.
It appeared the men in green would be up against it again as United captain Andrew McCaa scored an unbeaten century to steer his side through to 237 only seven runs less than the mark they successfully defended by a comfortable margin against Marist in early February.
However, Marist's Mark Fraser again produced a captain's knock and this time he had young opener Brett Cameron shoring up an end.
Cameron started very cautiously as the score ticked to less than 30 by the tenth over, but most importantly wickets were being retained as Marist looked to see off United's quicks.
After a couple of lbw decisions, Fraser joined Cameron who was still in the 20s around the 20th over and from there they took a stranglehold on proceedings.
Fraser fell but Cameron carried his bat through the innings.
In the other match at Collegiate, the hosts had matters well in hand with their 55-run victory over Wanganui High School.
Set 213 as their target, WHS were never really in the hunt, No10 batsman Caleb Greene the only player to put up a real fight.
