Four swiftly completed 520m heats last week says that's Friday's $45,420 Spion Rose Cup final at Group 1 level looms as an enthralling paw wrestle.

Nature's Gent sizzled through his heat assignment when he cut out the 520m trip in a slick 29.68s, winning by a comfortable eight lengths.

The Angela Turnwald-prepared greyhound has drawn poorly in the five trap.

He will be reliant on early racing luck, however he owns proven track sense as seen when Nature's Gent stylishly won last month's Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup.

Canterbury trainer Craig Roberts has qualified three finalists, including a sharp pair of heat winning litter brothers.

Dirk Bale completed his heat assignment in 29.99s when leading his rivals all the way.

He must use those same pace making tactics as he isn't as strong as others here over the later stages.

Kennelmate Letron James must quickly push forward from trap one.

The big beneficially from the box draw was Thrilling Raider, who has been allocated trap two to jump away from.

This noted Karen Walsh-trained chaser is a dead set railer, which says he'll stick on the rail from where he can launch his known strong finish.

Likewise American Warrior will enjoy jumping from trap seven for his conditioners Dave and Jean Fahey.

This proven big race performer has shown a preference for racing in the open spaces.
Lisa Cole has two contenders including the 30s heat winner Me Jane.

She has no option but to jump straight onto the early pace from trap eight.
