And if the young rugby star needed any reminders of where he comes from, his young nieces and nephews were wearing their Team Koroi T-Shirts yesterday and his mum Seruwaia Koroi is a teacher at the centre.
A photo of Vilimoni as a pre-schooler was taped to the wall above a Team Koroi poster that included the slogans "Bula Naiseuseu" and "Bula Maloku".
"Maloku is my home village in Fiji and Naiseuseu is his dad's home village," said Seruwaia Koroi.
The proud mum knew her son was destined for a rugby career although the Sevens selection was not expected.
He left Feilding High School at the end of last year and had played with the NZ Schools (15s) in October and as a wing/fullback with NZ Schools (7s) in December.
Vilimoni has been mentored by Braeden Whitelock (father of rugby notables Sam, Luke, Adam and George) and there have been calls from regional rugby unions for more than a year.
The young player has opted for Otago where the union offered him an attractive package which includes tertiary study.
His Born and Raised Pasifika whanau represent not only his Fijian roots but also the Samoan, Cook Islands, Maori and Whanganui cultures that he has grown up with.
The children and staff at Born and Raised Pasifika draped Vilimoni in lavalava, necklaces and a headdress representing all of them.
Mrs Puhipuhi said she hopes Vilimoni will always remember the values that he learned at his preschool.
"If all our graduates grow up to be like you we will know that we have done our job well," she said.
He may have played on a few different fields now but so far, Vilimoni Koroi still rates Cooks Gardens, Whanganui as his favourite rugby ground.
