Sustainable Whanganui Trust has been named as a finalist in the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Awards.
Trust adviser Robin Williamson said the trust's entry included all four categories for the awards - litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling and beautification.
"This is our first application so we're pretty chuffed," Ms Williamson said.
"In our application, we showed that we fully embraced Keep New Zealand Beautiful clean-up week in an effort to encourage a litter-free Whanganui."
Ms Williamson said Sustainable Whanganui's volunteers worked hard to divert waste from landfill in a variety of ways, including running composting and worm farm workshops; managing the Re-use Academy at the environment centre; organising cloth shopping bag "stitch ups" and handing them out for free.
