Annual hunting weekends for Atihau Whanganui Incorporation shareholders are always popular and are oversubscribed, CEO Andrew Beijeman says.

People who can't get a weekend on the block they want can usually get another later in the year. This weekend is the second of two advertised this year.

"We allow hunting on every possible weekend that's safe," Mr Beijeman said.

The purpose of the hunts is to reconnect whanau with whenua (land) and to reduce numbers of red and fallow deer on the incorporation's many farming blocks.

The hunting weekends are only available to incorporation shareholders - who must sign in, follow safety procedures and recover their animals.
