Healthy Families is about making healthy choices easier where we live, learn, work and play.

Last month the Healthy Families team for Whanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu started a healthy morning tea shout competition via their Facebook page.

Workplaces that participate in healthy activity can enter by posting photos of the activity they are engaging in.

"We know that a lot of workplaces are really pro-active, and there are a lot of really good things happening already," said team leader Debbie-Jane Viliamu.

"This competition is a way for us to get an idea who is doing what in our community and acknowledge their great work. It's also about giving workplaces ideas about some simple things they might be able to implement."

The winner of the November healthy morning tea shout was Paua Products after staff member Cathy-Lee Amer posted a photo of the Paua team undertaking a whole-of-office planking challenge.

Morning tea was delivered to the Paua team of 13 on Wednesday morning and featured a variety of healthy food options from the Quick Fix cafe located at the Tupoho complex in Campbell St.

Healthy Families is led by Te Oranganui Iwi Health Authority and is governed by representatives from across the community, including health, sport, councils, iwi organisations and the Ministry of Health.

One of the key messages of the initiative is that health is not just the responsibility of health services but that we all have a role to play in the health and wellbeing of our communities.

The Healthy Families team want to get involved with workplaces, schools, early childhood centres, sports clubs, places of worship and other settings to create lots of health-promoting environments.

"The healthy morning tea shout competition will continue to run monthly during 2016 and we hope to encourage workplaces from a variety of sectors in our community to showcase what they are doing to create healthy change."
