Wanganui parents are being urged to make sure they know where their teenagers are at night, after a series of large-scale parties in the town recently.
Whanganui Police area prevention manager Senior Sergeant Andrew McDonald said, at a number of the recent big parties, many had been teenagers who had been drunk and had no way of getting home safely.
Mr McDonald said making plans to get home safely needed to be a discussion parents had with their teenagers.
"While these conversations can be sometimes difficult, as teenagers want their independence, it's not about preventing them having a good time, it's about ensuring they get home safely without any harm coming to them."
He said parents should contact the host's parents and check on details such as supervision, time, location and arrangements regarding alcohol and transport.
