The voluntary work of three trustees and a wide range of community groups is again making for a Whanganui Summer Programme crammed full of interest.
The January 2013 programme will appear in the Chronicle on November 30, Wendy Pettigrew said. She, Ian Bell and David Scoullar are behind the Whanganui Summer Programme Trust. The programme's individual events are organised by organisations like Horizons Regional Council and Whanganui Regional Museum.
This year's programme is a series of 34 events, from evening talks to suburban Wanganui walks and full day outings to Lake Rotokare and Tawhiti Museum in South Taranaki.
New additions this year are a day trip to Castlepoint and a tour of past and present Wanganui manufacturing. There will also be an afternoon visit to Paloma Gardens and two beach walks.
Old favourites like visiting Rangitikei heritage homes and a trip to Pukaha/Mount Bruce are still included. The curator of Maori items at the Alexander Turnbull Library, Paul Diamond, will give a talk on his role, and there will be an evening visit to Bushy Park and a day's mountainbiking in the Mangapurua Valley.
