The rahui placed on the Whanganui River following the suspected drowning of Wanganui man Garrod Orsborn has been lifted.
The rahui was lifted five days after Mr Orsborn went missing, reportedly after jumping from the Aramoho Rail Bridge.
Putiki Church minister Canon Graham Kuru said he was asked to place the rahui
because the body had not been found within a day or two of going missing.
It was lifted five days later, although the body has still not been found.
The rahui is a prayer, a sacred blessing and mark of respect for the person missing in the river.
The rahui was put on whenever there was potentially a body in the Whanganui River, letting swimmers or fisherman know that things were happening in the river that could affect them, he said.
The rahui is usually lifted after about five days or when the body is found, or when it may have been swept out to sea.
