A GIRL is allowed to eat chocolate on her birthday especially her 100th birthday.
Wattle Downs Rest Home resident Connie Love, who turned 100 yesterday, was overwhelmed to be the centre of attention.
An afternoon tea in her honour at the rest home was attended by friends and five generations of her family from brother Charlie Rouse, 89, right down to one-year-old great, great grand-daughter Liliana Wills.
When the crowds became too much, Connie wandered off in search of some chocolate, although she was happy to pose for a photo for the Chronicle.
Born in Miramar on April 8, 1908, Connie was the third eldest of six children.
She married Cyril Patterson, and the couple had four boys. Cyril worked on the railways, and the family moved around Te Awamutu, Ohakune and Featherston before settling in Marton in 1943. After Cyril's death in 1976, Connie married Claude Love, who died around 10 years ago.
Connie lived in Marton from 1943 until she moved into Wattle Downs six months ago.
Charlie said it was amazing to think of his sister turning 100.
"Longevity runs in our family. We usually live to a good age."
