Free, on-line access to Hamilton rating and property valuations is now available.

A new GIS mapping viewer allows visitors to Hamilton City Council's website to find the information with just a few clicks of a mouse.

Council's chief information officer Eion Hall says the new initiative means quick and easy access to the rating and property value information for any property in the city.

"This is one of the most user-friendly additions to our website. You can search for any address in the city, and our GIS map tool will zoom right in on it," Mr Hall says.

From there, it's a 'click-through' link to the online property file, with information about rates, land and capital value, as well as legal descriptions and property sizes. Mr Hall says the new tool will be beneficial to people involved in the real estate sector, as well as home owners, prospective buyers and property developers.

GIS property mapping is available under the "Our Services" tab on the www.hamilton.co.nz homepage.

The GIS Mapping Viewer is compatible with all common computer and smartphone devices, including iPads, iPhones and other mobile digital technology.

A similar searchable database and GIS Mapping Viewer of cemetery sites also allows visitors to the council's website to search for the area of Hamilton Park Cemetery where loved ones have been buried.
