Typically stereos caused the biggest huffs across Hamilton over summer and prompted the most complaints to Noise Control.

Hamilton East residents were the biggest din makers with a whopping 428 noise complaints to Hamilton City Council noise control staff over the summer months.

Council figures show there were a total of 2764 noise complaints to noise control staff from nearly every suburb in Hamilton during the hotter months from December 2016 to mid-February this year.

The rowdiest neighbourhoods were Hamilton East, followed by Nawton with 277 complaints, Frankton with 226, Hillcrest with 168 and Dinsdale with 162.

The biggest noise in one hit was the Marley concert during the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, says City Safe manager Kelvin Powell.

"Based on the number of complaints received and where they were, the Marley concert received the most noise complaints. We worked with the event manager to reduce any noise through the remainder of the festival, and future festivals, and didn't receive another complaint."

Typically, blaring stereos cause the biggest huffs from irate neighbours across the city.

"Most noise complaints staff receive is related to noise from stereos and/or people in residential areas," Kelvin says, although this isn't always associated with parties.

Most noise complaints over the summer months often depend on the weather and events in the area, Kelvin says.

Noise control seized equipment four times.

Kelvin says public response to noise control staff showing up can vary "from people being very co-operative and willing to fix the noise, to others being more resistant".

"The officers make an effort to be approachable and to help everyone in the situation understand the rules and come to an appropriate solution."
