Waikato University is set to become a running rainbow next month.

The Colour Dash, held on Sunday, March 15, is a fun, family-friendly event is set to be the Waikato's "brightest run/walk".

The Colour Dash is not about being first over the line, but about laughing, sharing memories and getting colourful.

As 'dashers' make their way around the 3km course - walking, running or however they want - they will be splashed with clouds of colourful dust.

Not only a fun-filled day, the event is in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities with 50 per cent of every registration going to support one of the many Houses or Retreats used by sick families all around New Zealand.

The Ronald McDonald House in Auckland, for example, provides support, comfort and free accommodation for families who have an ill child being treated at Starship children's hospital.

For the 220 families from the Waikato who called RMHA home last year, many of the burdens caused by travelling to Auckland for medical care were relieved by their stay at the House.

The Colour Dash is a Unites States-based organisation whose mission is to raise local money for a local cause. The Dash started as a fundraiser for a suicide awareness and prevention film, and grew in its first year to more than 30 dashes around the US.
