Rockefeller Champagne & Oyster Bar
Classic raw oysters reign supreme here, although the wasabi tempura bites are incredibly moreish too. With a great wine list, it's also worth asking what interesting bubbles they have on hand to wash them down with.

Amano
All the seafood at Amano is beautifully fresh and the oysters are a standout. We tried them poached in butter and Prosecco and couldn't get enough.

The Oyster Inn
No surprises here  this Waiheke restaurant is in a prime spot to nab the freshest oysters. Their $99 three-course 'Taste of Waiheke' set menu kicks things off with four Te Matuku oysters matched with a glass of 2016 Passage Rock Sauvignon Blanc. You can also order these and oysters from Bluff off the menu (minimum of three) either natural with lemon, chardonnay vinegar and shallots, or Kilpatrick.

Ostro
If you're not 100 per cent sold on oysters' unique texture, Ostro's beer-battered option served with yuzu and wasabi mayo might be more to your taste. Another tasty version is their Oysters Kilpatrick with Harmony bacon, tabasco and confit shallot. If you're happy with a raw oyster in all its shiny glory, you can have them with shallot vinegar, citrus and soy or bloody mary and coriander.

Depot Eatery
Oysters are one of the main drawcards at Al Brown's Depot, with three kinds available from their raw bar, as well as clams if you're looking to switch it up. Try their Oysters Rockefeller  four grilled oysters with Pernod and parsley butter  and you'll begin to understand why this is such a popular spot.

Soul Bar & Bistro
Soul Bar do a brilliant job of raw oysters and shooters (which come with or without vodka), but something that sets them apart from the pack is their fried oyster burger in a brioche bun, with spicy mayo and slaw.
