Earlier todday local police detained a 37-year-old man in Te Awamutu following multiple reports of dangerous driving seen on State Highway 3.
He has been charged with dangerous driving and will appear in Hamilton District Court tomorrow.
Police received the reports at about 11.10am today and located and stopped a vehicle at 11.35am on Arawata St.
For about 20 minutes a section of Arawata St was closed to traffic.
The man refused to turn off the car and get out, resulting in a forced entry made by police.
Te Awamutu Police Senior Sergeant Robert Pierce says the man was detained under the Mental Health Act.
He was driving an Ebbett Holden courtesy vehicle, a Holden Calais. This vehicle was not stolen.
A police spokesperson said charges were yet to be determined.
