Dropping sets in two otherwise winning games kept the plucky Rotovegas women's volleyball side out of semifinal action in the second division at the 45th National Club Volleyball Championships in Nelson.
Although they beat the NZ Defence Force in their first match, Rotovegas dropped two sets along the way, losing
a competition point to their opponents because of the tight finish.
In their other winning match, the team did better by beating eventual semifinalists Nelson three sets to one, but that one set also allowed Nelson to sneak in with a better sets differential.
Captain Melissa Ruru was still pleased her team had "been in with a chance" at their first championship appearance.
