"I was very happy with the display as it was a great achievement for Rotorua but for me the next game is always the most important," he said.
"I will be looking for further improvement against Hamilton and I want to see every player sticking to the game plan and pushing themselves.
"Yes we got a good result against them last time, but it would be foolish to take that for granted. We can't just turn up and expect a win.
"Hamilton need a result or two and I certainly don't want them picking points up against us."
United are still in contention for the title after six games - currently one point behind Northern United and four points off leaders Melville United, with a game in hand. They beat the top-of-the-table team 3-1 this season, but Cane is playing down any title talk.
"It is very much a rebuilding stage for the club and we want to try and lay a platform for next year and years ahead," he said.
"We are in the mix for the title but are still a very long way off. The league has some very strong teams and everyone wants to get their hands on the trophy.
"It would be an incredible achievement for the side if we did win and we do have real quality in the side. But players need to continue to turn up every week and put the effort in because that is what wins you titles."
United, who are managed by Denise Smith, will be almost at full strength and have an impressive attacking capability, with top goal-scorers Kim Emmanuelle-Maguire netting 10 goals and Annalise Heuvel scoring eight in the Premier competition.
However, midfielder Dani McKenzie is unavailable for selection.
The new competition, which has this year seen the merger of Bay of Plenty and Waikato to make a stronger division, will see the winning club at the end of the season going into a playoff match in a bid to qualify for the Northern League premier women's competition, based out of Auckland.
But Cane, who signed for United at the start of the season, believes the club has a long way to go to make major progress, including the recruitment of new players.
"I'm hoping I get a few more numbers and hopefully we can attract more quality players back to the club. So we are just looking to build from the bottom to the top again," he said.
"An ultimate aim in the future would be to win the league but at the moment it's just looking at improving every week and putting plans in place for a successful future."
