Top teams playing away

The three top of the table teams in the Waibop Federation 1 league all have away games this weekend.

Ngongotaha, who won a close encounter in the Chatham Cup on Thursday, play Whakatane Town at Rex Morpeth Park today in what should be a close encounter.

The Villagers have won all three of their opening games this season but Whakatane, with two draws and a win, are also unbeaten.

Ngongotaha will be looking to senior player Josh O'Sullivan for inspiration. O'Sullivan has been in superb form this season for the side.

AFC Fury, who have won their three games convincingly, travel to Matamata and should come away with maximum points again from this game.

The other top of the table side, Tauranga Old Blues, struggled to avoid relegation last season but have been the surprise packet and will be favoured to win against Tauranga City at Links Ave.

In other games, Otumoetai will be seeking their first point against Cambridge while defending champions Taupo will be desperate to add to their two points when they meet Melville at Gower Park.

The Rotorua United versus Waikato Unicol game has been deferred because of university holidays.
